10 January 2012

Published by Southgate Publishers (known for their practical, accessible resources for parents, Children’s Centres, Nurseries and schools) WORKING WITH FATHERS consists of a manual and CD for use by professionals (Working with Fathers) and a booklet for fathers of children aged about 3-5 years (Daddy, Let’s Play).

Working with Fathers offers lots of practical ideas, advice and support for those working with fathers, both individually and with their families. The book and accompanying CD cover such areas as father-inclusive practice; making your venue father-friendly; audit of practice; planning, running and evaluating successful sessions; staff and volunteer training and how to engage and involve fathers. The CD also includes activities for dads and babies / toddlers. The price of the book and CD is £16.95.

Daddy, Let’s Play provides activities for dads to do with young children using bits and pieces normally found in the home; the activities can be undertaken quickly; and use the outdoors as well as indoors. The booklet is priced to enable organisations to buy quantities in and give them out to fathers, either at an event or ‘cold’. The price is between £1.95 and £1.17 per copy.

The authors of the two resources, Daniel Ayeni and Ali Perry, are managers of Children’s Centres in the London Borough of Sutton and in rural Wiltshire. For more details and to view sample pages please visit the Southgate website.
