What employers think of new parental leave rules and proposals

26 August 2011

We recently ran a mini-survey of employers, about the Government’s Modern Workplaces consultation on flexible parental leave, and the new (from 2011) additional paternity leave.

Here’s a quick summary of the results:

We had 44 responses to the survey, 91% of them from companies with more than 250 employees.

Three quarters (74%) of respondents were aware/very aware of the consultation, and 68% said they were likely/very likely to find out more and respond to it.

Three out of five respondents (61%) rated the proposed shared and flexible approach to parental leave highly/very highly.

Nearly all (91%) of respondents were aware of the additional paternity leave system that came into force on 3 April 2011; three out of five (61%) said they expect this system to be significant/very significant.

Overall, 16% of respondents rated the level of maternity/paternity leave in their company as ‘very generous’; 39% said theirs was ‘generous’ and 43% provided the statutory minimum.
