The Dad Challenge

9 June 2009

A growing number of fathers (and father figures) seem to be dropping off and collecting children from early years settings – in some cases even 40%!  Try a simple audit for one week to find out how many mothers and fathers (and other carers) actually come to your setting.  You may be surprised by how many (or how few) men you actually see.

This is the dad challenge:

  1. Complete the audit for a full week of sessions in your setting, using one form per day.
  2. What does the audit tell you?
  3. What action do you plan to take around engaging with fathers?

You can find a blank audit form at: www.pre-school.org.uk/fathers/audit

Briefly write up your learnings and action plan and send, with your contact details, to fathers@pre-school.org.uk.  The five best responses will each win one copy of the Pre-school Learning Alliance’s new Where’s Dad? handbook on engaging with fathers and one copy of the children’s book My Dad by Anthony Browne.

Closing date: Friday 10th July 2009
