Fatherhood Institute at Party Conferences in September

22 July 2009

The Fatherhood Institute is already having considerable success with significant events at the Party Conferences this autumn.

"Negotiating Fatherhood: a key to strengthening parental relationships", which the Institute is co-hosting with the important relationship-support charity, One Plus One, will be held at the Labour Party conference on 29 September at 18.00 in the Shelley Suite, Thistle Hotel, Brighton.  Speakers include:

  • The Rt Hon. Ed Balls MP, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families
  • Yvonne Roberts, Journalist; Senior Associate at the Young Foundation
  • Penny Mansfield, Director, One Plus One
  • David Bartlett, Deputy Chief Executive, Fatherhood Institute
  • Donal MacIntyre, Journalist

“Negotiating Fatherhood” is one of a platform of events developed by a coalition of 12 leading family charities to raise family issues at the Liberal Democrat, Labour and Conservative Party Conferences under the banner of "The Family Room".

The coalition is made up of the Family & Parenting Institute, Relate, Gingerbread, The Fatherhood Institute, the Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships, One Plus One, Family Action, Parenting UK, Children England, Home-Start, Parentline Plus, and Family Links.

Informed directly by their work with parents, children and practitioners in communities across the country, the coalition will be hosting a series of seven fringe events discussing issues of great importance to families.  Between them, coalition members provide helplines, face to face services, information and research – and reach hundreds of thousands of families each year.  This knowledge will be used to inform policy makers of the real issues families face today.
