High Quality DVD About Young Fathers
YOUNG fathers from west Wiltshire have created a film to try and dispel some of the negative ideas people have about them.
The film is of very high quality and can be used to awaken health and other family professionals, as well as young fathers and mothers, and their wider families, to young fathers’ potential in their children’s lives. The Fatherhood Institute recommends it highly.
The group of young fathers who made the film met on a young dads-to-be course, run by Mike White of U-Too, a not-for-profit company. The dads spent six months making the film, which they have called Dads Matter Too, applying for the grants from The Prince’s Trust and Wiltshire Young People’s Opportunity Fund which enabled them to make it, then filming and editing it themselves, and creating their own soundtrack. The film features interviews, discussions, and clips of dads with their children, doing first aid courses, swimming, baby massage and lots more. Much of it is moving and inspiring.
The dads hope the film will raise awareness among politicians and the general public of their experiences. They also want it to help inform the national debate about teenage parenthood, challenge stereotypical prejudices and remind people that “dads matter too”.
