Ideas for encouraging fathers to read with their children
The National Literacy Trust has produced a magazine aimed at professionals who work with fathers, to help them get dads to read with their children.
Getting the Blokes on Board includes case studies from a variety of sectors, along with research evidence and interviews with celebrities who read with their children. It is relevant for staff working in early years settings, primary and secondary schools, libraries, prisons and even football clubs.
There is compelling evidence that dads who read to their children can help improve their educational outcomes. For more details on this and other ways in which involved fathers help their children’s development, read the Fathers Direct summary of research on fathers’ influence over children’s education.
Getting the Blokes on Board is available free from Rodie Akerman or you can download a pdf from the National Literacy Trust website.
