Getting Daddy ready for school
Sure Start Millbrook, Redbridge and Maybush (MRM) and Mansel Primary School in Southampton have teamed up to support fathers’ involvement in their children’s schooling.
The project linked Sure Start MRM’s Daddy Cool group and Mansel Primary School so that the activities taking place at Daddy Cool would compliment those that were taking place in the Reception class at the school.
The aim was to raise fathers awareness of what their children were/would be learning in the Foundation Stage of Education and encourage the fathers to be involved in their children’s schooling in the future.
The four week project took place earlier this year and was co-ordinated by Sure Start MRM’s Community Development Worker (lead for fathers/family men) who evaluated the project as part of his coursework for a Foundation Degree in Early Years Care and Education.
