Dads and Lads Regional Conference – London

Published: 30 January 2006

Kingston & Wimbledon YMCA 13th June 2006

Dads&lads is a national initiative that helps fathers and their children deepen their relationships through sharing an activity together. It began at Plymouth YMCA in 1998 and since then YMCA England (with support from the Department for Education and Skills) have helped set up over sixty local dads&lads projects throughout England. Twenty of these projects have begun during the last three years. Using a diverse range of activities, from football to kite-making, local project organisers have enabled fathers, father figures and their sons (and sometimes daughters too) to have fun together and create memories that will last a lifetime. Some projects also gave the men and children the opportunity to talk about being a dad or father figure, or son or daughter and what it means to them.

At our regional conferences you will get the opportunity to hear directly from the local project organisers about their experience of setting up, running and developing work with fathers and their children together. You will hear the truth about working with fathers and children – the highs and the lows – based on actual first hand experience.

Each of the twenty projects was independently evaluated by Fathers Direct and you will hear a presentation of their findings, based on interviews with the dads, children and workers who took part.

Please join us at one of the conferences for a day of fun, laughter and inspiration.
