Response to report from Childcare Commission

19 April 2001

In response to the report from the Childcare Commission published today calling for greater support for families, Fathers Direct, the national information centre for fatherhood issued the following statement.

Duncan Fisher of Fathers Direct said:

“We would welcome any increase in state support for parents who are either caring for children at home or having to pay for childcare. However, it is vital that any change in benefits should apply to fathers as well as mothers, so that families enjoy a full range of options for their children. Fathers, like mothers, today aspire both to provide and care for their children and should be given the same opportunity to do both.”

Note to Editors:

Fathers Direct is the national information centre for fatherhood. A charity, funded by public and private grants, we were founded in 1999 to promote close and positive relationships between men and their children. On January 25, Fathers Direct launched www.fatherhoodinstitute.org Britain’s first on-line magazine for all dads.
